Opera Artist Institute
About Emerald City Opera and the 2014 Opera Artist Institute:
Emerald City Opera (ECO) completed its eleventh season in 2013 with a symphonic-vocal concert starring renowned opera professionals while concurrently facilitating its sixth year of the Opera Artist Institute for Emerging Singers. For 2014, ECO will present two fully-staged operas: 1) Falstaff with a professional cast and chorus and selected comprimario roles sung by Artist Institute participants; and 2) Dido and Aeneas, all roles sung by Artist Institute singers. The three-week program also includes numerous arias concerts and recitals including daily coachings, numerous masterclasses, acting and dance instruction, and a new Conductor’s Workshop in which participants will sing with orchestra. The Institute begins with dinner on Sunday, July 27 and ends after the performance on Sunday, August 17.
ECO’s Opera Artist Institute plays a vital role in the life of the company, giving emerging artists a wide range of opportunities to learn and perform in a fast paced and supportive environment. In 2009, Emerald City Opera expanded the Institute to offer opportunities to student directors, conductors and pianist-coaches, as well as singers. In 2014, ECO will add a weekend workshop (August 15-17) for student conductors. For details regarding the conducting workshop opportunity, please contact Keri Rusthoi at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
The Opera Artist Institute is open to a maximum of 20 selected singers dedicated to performing at their highest level and one or more rising directors, conductors, and pianist-coaches. With the characteristics of most “Young Artist” programs, the Institute provides aspiring professionals with performance experience and professional training, but is open to excellent musicians of any age.
